Redwood Sculpture - The "Gentle Monk Seal"

The “Gentle Monk Seal” is a friendly companion to the other members of the Whale Forest. Created from a log salvaged from Golden Gate Park in San Francisco, she is an endangered monk seal, native to Hawaii, and sits under the protective gaze of the whale, nestled in a natural recycled wood ecosystem.

Protecting the Seal: One of the two remaining monk seal species in the world – with a population of only about 1,300 – the gentle Hawaiian monk seals are the United States’ most endangered marine mammals.
